14th China-Singapore Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC)
Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Singapore’s Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, met with Mr Zhao Yingmin, China’s Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment at the 14th JCBC meeting, where they reaffirmed the importance of environmental cooperation in bilateral ties.
3R Awards for Hotels
Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for the Environment and Water Resources, presented the 3R Awards for Hotels to 14 award winners this year. The awards recognised the hotels’ continued contributions to waste minimisation.
Stamford Diversion Canal and Stamford Detention Tank
Singapore has been investing in infrastructure to adapt to climate change. The newly operational Stamford Diversion Canal and Stamford Detention Tank will strengthen existing flood protection measures. The tank can hold up to 15 Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of stormwater.
A Greener Changi Airport
Singapore’s Changi Airport achieved Level Three in the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme in May this year. Between 2016 to 2017, Changi Airport undertook more than 10 eco-friendly initiatives. These included: installation of solar panels; rooftop sensors to detect sunlight and control skylight panels – reducing the need for artificial lighting; and using food waste digesters to convert more than 250 tonnes of food into water last year.
